MORE north Essex pensioners could receive free care in their own homes under national plans unveiled today.

The Government has announced its final legislative package before the General Election in the Queen's Speech.

Pledges to provide free social care for 280,000 of the neediest people in England and introduce new powers to curb the excesses of the banking industry were at the heart of the Government's message.

Other proposals include new guarantees for parents on schooling and a legal commitment to halve the national deficit over the next four years.
