TENDRING Council is finally to go ahead and install new ventilation units at Dovercourt Swimming Pool, three years after a problem was First due to be fixed.

Senior councillors have approved £150,000 of work at the Wick Lane pool and it is expected to be carried out next March.

Peter Halliday, Tory councillor responsible for finance, said the previous, Tendring First administration should have done the work sooner.

A report to councillors suggested the current air system was only running at a third of the capacity needed. It added £80,000 had been earmarked in 2006 for the work, but later withdrawn. The following year, £135,000 was set aside for the work, then spent refurbishing facilities in Frinton, Harwich and Dovercourt.

Pierre Oxley, Mr Halliday’s Tendring First predecessor, said the work had been delayed so it could become part of a bigger £1million revamp.

That project was then scrapped this year by the Tories.
