A DRUG addict has admitted possessing heroin after police found the substance at her home during a raid.
Emma Young’s home in St Peter’s Street, Colchester, was searched on August 25, Colchester magistrates heard.
Prosecutor Tamzin Sharp said Young, 30, had pointed to a slipper on the floor when asked if there were drugs on the premises. Some 0.6 grammes of the c lass A were found inside.
Miss Sharp said: “She told officers it was hers personally and, when asked how much it cost, said it cost £20 and she used £5 a day.”
Young’s lawyer, Liz Bradshaw, said she accepted she had issues with drugs, which she’d started using to help her deal with the death, from cancer, of her long-term partner in 2002.
She added: “She is candid, she did not deal with that very well and turned to drugs.”
Miss Bradshaw said her arrest and the recent suicide of a close friend had forced her to re-evaluate her life and seek help to deal with her drug problem and grief.
Sentencing was adjourned until November 27 to allow reports to be prepared about Young’s background.
