A MOTHER-OF-TWO is angry over Child Support Agency delays which have twice left her short of cash to support her young daughters.

Errors in processing claims for health worker Sarah Reese’s eldest daughter, Zoe, seven, led it to pay out £2,000 compensation for the period she was without money.

Now she says a similar thing has happened with her claim for four-year-old daughter Jessica, who has a different dad.

She said: “I have letters confirming a mistake was made (over Zoe) and as a result, the agency made a payment of £2,000.

“But I have still not had any other payments,” said Miss Reese, 29, of Elizabeth Way, Colchester.

She said the agency had now admitted making a similar mistake with her claim for Jessica.

But she added: “I have been told I cannot have a lump sum like it gave me for Zoe, because the agency couldn’t actually find out how much Jessica’s dad would have earned during that period.

“It’s not like I am sitting at home doing nothing. I am out at work, doing the best I can. All I wanted was the regular support every month.”

She said she had provided as many details as she could about her former partners, to help the agency pursue her claims.

Charlotte Simmons, spokes-man for the Child Support Agency, said: “We are unable to comment on individual cases. However, we have been in contact with Miss Reese to address her concerns.

“A minority of parents go to great lengths to avoid their financial responsibility to their children, including frequent changes of address and employment. We can, and will, use our enforcement powers against those who don’t pay. This can sometimes be a lengthy process but we do not give up on cases, and we do not write off accumulated arrears.”
