A MAN has been jailed for a year after he admitted separate charges of intimidating a witness and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Lance Greenan threatened Steven Haylett in the mini-market, in Broadway, Jaywick, on April 28.

Mr Haylett was a potential witness against Greenan, of Beach Way, Jaywick, in criminal damage proceedings.

The 22-year-old hit a man called Robert Foster on the head with a brandy bottle during an argument, on August 15, a court heard.

Judge Anthony Goldstaub, sentencing Greenan at Chelmsford Crown Court, said he could have easily killed or disabled Mr Foster.

He said: “This was a vicious assault, using a weapon which came to hand when you lost your temper.

“It is necessary to imprison you by way of punishment to mark the gravity of these offences, and in the hope it might rehabilitate you where cautions have proved unsuccessful while you’ve been at liberty.”

He jailed him for four months for intimidation and eight months for assault.
