OBJECTIONS have been lodged against a new store and flats.

The East of England Co-operative Society has submitted plans for a shop, with six apartments on the first floor, at the former Fleetshield garage and workshop premises, in East Street, Coggeshall.

It would replace the existing Co-op, at Doubleday Corner.

Five objections have been made by residents, citing the building would not be in keeping with the conservation area, the effect the store would have on privately-owned shops, and potential antisocial behaviour and traffic issues.

Barry Higgins, of Brook Street, said the store would “ruin all that has been enjoyed by Coggeshall’s residents and visitors”.

Braintree Council has the final say on the application.
