A ROYAL Military Police officer killed in Afghanistan has been named as a former Colchester-based soldier.
Corporal James 'Jim' Oakland died in the Gereshk region of Helmand province on Thursday.
He was fatally injured by an improvised explosive device, while carrying out a routine patrol to clear the area of the devices.
