A LANDLADY is “disgusted” after fly-tippers dumped a lorryload of rubbish behind flats and shops she owns.
Patricia Cemil, who rents out a chip shop, hairdresser’s and homes above in Barrack Street, Colchester, said she regularly had to clear waste behind the block.
She has previously taken the initiative herself by loading the junk in her truck and taking it to the tip.
But the latest load – including mattresses and furniture – was too big to fit in the vehicle.
Mrs Cemil said: “I’m absolutely disgusted. The people who live in my flats and rent my shops are really respectable and they don’t deserve this.
“The people must have had a lorry to take it there in the first place, so I can only think they were just trying to avoid paying to dump it at the tip.”
Colchester Council has recently extended free pick-ups of bulky waste to include areas of Berechurch and Harbour Wards and Holt Drive, off Mersea Road. Waste chiefs have also made use of spy cameras in a bid to catch dumpers in the act.
