A FATHER is preparing for a gruelling hike up Ben Nevis in October to raise money to send his autistic son to America.

Ethan Mathias, four, from Wivenhoe, was diagnosed with classic autism and global developmental delay at the age of two.

Since then, his parents, who also have a daughter Elise, two, have researched ways to relieve his symptoms.

Dad Simon said: “Our main aim is to work with doctors in Thoughtful House, Texas. From their studies and work so far, they have found on average 87 per cent of autistic children assessed suffer from various problems in the digestive system.”

Mr Mathias hopes to raise between £5,000 and £6,000 to take Ethan for assessments. He said the trek will take about five hours. To donate, visit www.ethan-and-autism.co.uk
