Villagers are celebrating the news of new allotments.
About 30 allotments will be created in Clacton Road, St Osyth, and there is already a 20-strong waiting list.
The parish council has agreed a peppercorn rent with the landowner, and will take over the land on September 29.
Sonia Grantham, chairman of the parish council, said: βIt is really exciting. We were really enthusiastic to meet this need and we have finally found some land.β
The project will be run on a shoestring. A farmer has offered to help prepare the land and install water for free, and a car park will be created using recycled road surfacing material.
