A DAUGHTER is getting on her bike to raise funds for the hospice which cares for her mum.

Lynne Baines has been inspired to take part in the Farleigh Hospice Cycle for Life after seeing the difference the charity has made to her mum Margaret’s life.

Margaret Porter was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October last year and moved in with Lynne in February.

Lynne, 40, of Cross Road, Maldon, said: “To say it is very hard to watch someone you love die of cancer, would obviously be a massive understatement.

“Farleigh Hospice has been there for mum and for all of us at this very difficult time. The support we receive is invaluable.

“I’m taking part in the Cycle for Life for two reasons. Firstly, since mum and our family have been affected by cancer, I want to help raise money for such a vital support system, and, secondly, because I need to feel proactive.”

Farleigh Hospice, in Maldon, helped with the transition when Margaret moved in with her daughter and continue to help her be as independent as possible.

Lynne said: “Mum is a very proud lady and maintaining her dignity is very important. I feel privileged to be doing something so positive to help, not just because of mum, but also for the cause itself.

“Since coming into contact with it, I have become aware Farleigh Hospice is a charity which depends on the generosity of local people to fund the majority of its costs.

“I am very much looking forward to the cycle and sincerely hope lots of other people will also get on their bikes and ride in aid of Farleigh Hospice.”
