I realise that now I am past my best-before date, I am becoming a grumpy old man and am no longer “with it”.

Perhaps readers would put me right on my following observation.

As a child on a day trip to Clacton, I was most impressed by the view out to sea. So much space, and for the first time a view of the horizon with the occasional sail boat.

Today’s day-trip visitor will be presented with a backdrop of a clutter of untidy wind turbines directly in line with the pier, complete with a viewing platform.

No doubt the view will be further ruined by even more obstacles.

While everyone’s attention has been drawn to a pair of gates in Frinton, our seaview has been destroyed without, as far as I am aware, any resistance from the council.

No doubt today’s young visitors will go home and draw their artistic pictures of a windfarm, while I prefer my sailboats in the sunset.

I would like to see a plaque with the names of those who were responsible for allowing this to happen placed at the viewing site, along with a picture of the view as it used to be.
