Following the popularity of the recent BBC TV series, Mary Queen of Charity Shops, I’m writing to encourage local businesses to sign-up to retail guru Mary Portas’ idea of hosting a D-Day (Donate, Don’t Dump) in support of Sue Ryder Care.

Endorsed by the Association of Charity shops, DDay asks businesses to designate one day a week on which staff each bring in unwanted, good quality items (such as clothing) to charity shops.

D-Days are a greatway for businesses and their staff to help charities, such as Sue Ryder Care, raise money.

Re-use is also great for the environment by reducing landfill.

In north Essex and Suffolk, there are 21 Sue Ryder Care shops, all of which are in need of good quality, unwanted items to raise vital funds. And, if people gift aid donated items, we can claim an extra 28 per cent of the value of each item sold from the taxman.

All money raised from the sale of donated items helps us to continue to provide quality care for people living with end of life and long-term conditions including cancer, stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, dementia, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease.

Please call me on 07766007496 or e-mail me at jayne.parker@sueryder care.org if you’re hosting a D-Day and would like to arrange to receive gift aid forms and collection of donated items.
