Five to six years ago, the town was buzzing with proposed plans to alter St Botolph’s corner, John Lewis coming to town plus a new bus park.

A lot of money may have been spent looking into the feasibility of this exciting programme, so I feel that a lot of the groundwork tomy proposal may still be available.

It includes making the existing road from St Botolph’s/Queen Street into Vineyard car park able to take buses.

All buildings from this entrance down to Arthur Street, along Osborne Street to the existing entrance of the car park should be taken down.

The new bus park could be built on this flat area, with a large car park over the top.

This could be funded by not building super bus stops and to forget the white elephant idea of park and ride from Tollgate.

North Hill, High Street and Head Street could be car free.

New shops along Osborne Street will enhance the area.

If, and when, John Lewis wishes to come to town, it could still take over the corner site it wants.

I’m sure all shopkeepers would welcome a large lowpriced car park.

The lovely old shops in Eld Lane could be left untouched.
