A BRAINTREE bass player has found fame online.

Musician Andrew Austin has been overwhelmed with the success of his musical comeback, which has seen his music attract thousands of hits on the Myspace website.

His Myspace page has been viewed by more than 40,000 people, but more importantly he has had almost about 15,000 people listen to his tune Detour to 5 Four.

“I’ve played in lots of bands over the years,” said Andrew, who lives in Braintree town centre.

“I put together the band Fisher King which split up about ten years ago.”

After the split he took a break from the music scene, although he continued to write and has written enough music for seven or eight CDs.

He said: “I got a laptop about 18 months ago and put a lot of my old music on the internet.

“I found out recently I was in two of the Myspace music charts.

“I didn’t realise there would be so much interest.”

He said in total there have been about 75,000 plays of the songs he has put on to myspace.

Last week he was number 11 in the myspace fusion charts and number 36 in the funk charts, which includes the likes of Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse.

Having worked with local names, Martin Donald, Spiral Circuit and Crazy 88, he is now keen to put together his own band and record some of his material.

He said he only plays original music and anyone who would like to form a band should check out his music to see what they could add to his sound.
