lCOLCHESTER’S first Muslim and Jewish music festival kicks off this weekend.

The event is raising cash for Medicins Sans Frontieres for its work in the Palestinian territories.

It starts on Saturday at Colchester Arts Centre, with a performance from Ameen Ali Khan, pictured, and continues on Sunday when Shafeek Ibrahim will be running an Egyptian belly dance workshop at the Headgate Theatre during the day, followed by a performance in the evening.

Polina Shepherd will run a Yiddish singing workshop on Sunday, July 12 at the Minories, then on Thursday, July 16, contemporary jazz-folk singer Ana Silvera will perform at the Headgate Theatre On Saturday, July 18, Daphna Sadeh and Voyagers appear at Colchester Arts Centre and on Sunday, July 19, Stefan and Bethan Freedman run a circle dance workshop at the William Loveless Hall, Wivenhoe.

The festival closes with hip-hop poets Mohammed Yahya and Poetic Pilgrimage at Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, on Sunday, July 26.
