THE family of a woman who died following a collision with a taxi have spoken of the “strong, independent” woman who will be missed by all who knew her.

Doris Cornwall died from head injuries she sustained when she was in a collision with a silver Mercedes Vito taxi, in Station Road, Clacton.

The 68-year-old grandmother and mother-of-two was a member of Clacton’s Comrades and Conservative clubs.

In a statement, her family said: “Doris had a very easy-going outlook on life, was a strong, very independent person and will be missed by all who knew her.

“The family wishes to thank all the friends that have helped, including the exceptional support which was provided by the ambulance service, including the helicopter crews, Queens Hospital, Romford, and the police.”

Mrs Cornwall was born on February 2, 1941, in St Asaph in Wales, after her mother had left London during the Second World War.

Before her retirement, she worked in marine insurance in the City of London and later Clinton Cards, before retiring to Clacton.

Mrs Cornwall met her husband Tony in St Osyth in 1960 and they married in 1963.

The statement continued: “Doris had always loved the area and found her dream retirement home, location and friends.

“Tony, her husband, died in 2003 of a heart attack and even after Tony died, Doris was adamant on staying in Clacton.

“Doris loved her social life she was an avid jive dancer and attended the Conservative and the Comrades clubs in Clacton regularly.”
