Oooh arrrrr to S Wilson, from the Pirates (credit where credit’s due.

Gazette letters, Monday).

As members of the Wivenhoe Town Pirate Kung fu Line Dancing Display Team (with a bird of prey twist), without doubt winners of next year’s final of Britain’s Got Talent.

We were saddened to read that S Wilson didn’t observe our efforts, three of the five pram teams were in our number, wearing bobble hats and club scarves, ladies dressed as men, six-foot men in pink and fuzzy wigs dressed as ladies are hard to miss running past your front door. For Saturday’s event, the pub shovel, we parked our galleon the Mary Rose Sauce (it has featured in a few prawn films) in the football club car park, and swashbuckled our way to the event with a belly-full of a hearty all-day breakfast, courtesy of our sponsor pub the Horse n Groom (very hospitable and a warm welcome on every visit – pirate or otherwise), the pub name in which we took part in the race – Simon the landlord was himself a former member of the Wivenhoe Town Pirate Kung Fu Line Dancing Display Team (before we had a bird of prey twist).

As to the reporting of the result, being pirates, when asked we could do nothing but tell ye the truth, especially on a belly-full of rum, wellies full of Colne and still feeling warm and hearty on an all-day Horse n Groom breakfast, (which is very good value and really hits the spot).

Did we win? “All the participants were winners for taking part”, or something like that, came our answer. Finally, as for that Moores and Winstanley, as former cabin boys of ours, we were pleased for them and their vessel. If S Wilson would like a ride in our landlubbers’ chariot, the Black Dragon, or would like to audition to join the members of the Wivenhoe Town Pirate Kung Fu Line Dancing Display Team (with a bird of prey twist) we will gladly extend a pirate hand of friendship to welcome him aboard.

A huge thank you to the committee of the regatta, what a magnificent few days.
