MP Bob Russell completed a terrifying leap from the skies to honour a promise to the widow of a courageous paratrooper.
The Lib Dem MP and defence minister Kevan Jones joined Victoria Bateman on the 13,000ft parachute jump over Salisbury Plain, to mark the first anniversary of her husband James’s death.
The two politicians agreed to take part in the charity jump after Mrs Bateman asked them at Colchester Garrison last year.
Mr Russell said he was relieved the jump was over, but added he had been delighted to join in the tribute to Lce Cpl James Bateman, of Colchester-based 2 Para, who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
