ABOUT 70 people gathered to create an historic moment in a society’s history.
Members of the Harwich Society marked its ruby anniversary by coming together for a photo at the town’s 19th century Redoubt Fort.
The society, which was founded in 1969, celebrated its silver anniversary in the same way in 1994.
The snaps are intended to record the contribution of those who play an active role in the society.
This includes staffing its visitor attractions through to delivering its quarterly magazine.
Chairman Andy Rutter was given a plate engraved with his name and the society’s crest at the get-together.
He was one of the society’s founding members and has been on its committee since the Seventies.
Mr Rutter said: “I am very grateful to the society for this lovely gift. However, my greatest pleasure is to see the Harwich Society go from strength to strength after 40 years.”
The society has 1,700 members worldwide.
Anyone who wants to join should call Aileen Farnell on 01255 553610.
