A COLLEGE has allayed fears free courses for students with learning disabilities will be axed.

Concerns were raised over the future of the Braintree College courses after it emerged the Learning and Skills Council would not be funding a number of pre-entry courses.

The college and the council said in March courses from 2010, which were not approved by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority, would not be eligible for funding.

But David Mason, interim principal at Braintree College, allayed fears by confirming the courses would continue free of charge.

He said: “The college had originally thought it would have to make a charge to students with learning difficulties and disabilities who attend these particular courses.

“However, by making some changes to the courses, the college will be able to claim funding and will not have to make a charge to the students.

“Courses for people with learning difficulties and disabilities have always been seen as very important and we are therefore, pleased we will be able to continue to offer them.”
