A GRATEFUL daughter will complete a midnight walk to thank hospice staff who look after her mother.

Teresa Mortimer, of Earls Colne, says St Helena Hospice, Colchester, has been incredibly supportive since her mother, Kitty Evans, developed a brain tumour last November.

Mrs Evans, of Queens Road, Earls Colne, visits the hospice’s day centre every Friday so her husband, Geoff, can get a break.

Ms Mortimer has also been on a carers’ course, where she met other people who understand how it feels to look after a relative.

The 49-year-old said: “The hospice is so wonderful.

“Mum goes every Friday to the day centre so my dad can come home and do jobs around the house.

“They are always there if you want to phone somebody, even in the middle of the night.

“They don’t get any funding from the Government, just donations.”

Former hairdresser Ms Mortimer said her motherhad lost mobility on her right side.

Ms Mortimer, who is being supported by her partner Geoff, and son Matthew, 24, will stride off on June 6 in the St Helena Hospice event, which takes place at Colchester United’s football ground.

She has already raised nearly £700 in six days for the nine-mile hike, and hopes to get £2,000. You can sponsor her at www.justgiving.com/teresamortimer
