A GROUP of dedicated walkers is putting their best foot forward for a military charity.

Seven friends, five of them from Colchester, are walking the West Highland Way, in Scotland, to raise money for Help for Heroes.

They start on Sunday and are aiming to complete the 95-mile route, from Milngavie in the Lowlands to Fort William in the Highlands.

Trish Whiffin, who manages Bon Marche clothes shop in Long Wyre Street, Colchester, said the friends hoped to raise £1,500 from “a great walk, for a great cause”.

She added: “My husband, Mike, organises these things with his old Army friend and I get dragged along!

“We’re camping and will have a support team of two of the guys’ wives, who will be setting up tents and cooking for us on the way.

“It’s beautiful scenery and all we have to hope is that the weather and the midges are kind to us.”

The group has already walked the Three Peaks in Yorkshire and Hadrian’s Wall in recent years to raise money for MacMillan Nurses and Cancer Relief.
