GLOVES and wellies were the attire of choice when a working party got stuck in to help a Colchester school.

A total of 17 employees from Colchester-based insurance company Hiscox Insurance, helped to clear woodland at Lexden Springs School, so that work can begin to create a boardwalk.

The school, which was set up to cater for children with complex learning disabilities, has been selected by Hiscox staff as its nominated charity this year.

It is hoped the boardwalk will allow pupils, including many who are dependant on wheelchairs, to take advantage of the woodland area which makes up much of the school’s grounds.

The working party cleared the site of litter so construction could start on the raised path which will meander through the woods.

Alan Millard, chief operating officer for Hiscox UK, said: “We have been working closely with Lexden Springs to create a project which our staff can get involved with and which makes a real impact on the day to day experience of the pupils at the school.
