A PHOTOGRAPH of soldiers paying tribute to fallen comrades taken by Colchester MP Bob Russell has been selected for a Parliamentary exhibition at the House of Commons.

The picture of the men from 16 Air Assault Brigade at the field of poppies outside Westminster Abbey is one of two taken by Mr Russell which appear in the exhibition.

The second is of a snow scene at the Victorian bandstand in Colchester Castle Park, taken in February.

Mr Russell said: “Last autumn, I welcomed four separate groups of soldiers from Colchester, who had served in Afghanistan, to Parliament.

“This particular group were here in November, and we walked across to the field of poppies for them to pay tribute to colleagues who had lost their lives earlier in the year in Helmand Province.

“A few days earlier, I had placed in the section for the Parachute Regiment an individual poppy cross, with their name, for each of the soldiers from the Colchester Garrison who had been killed.

“It was quite a moving occasion. I was able to capture the moment, and I believe that the choice of this photograph for display in the Parliamentary exhibition will be well received by Parliamentarians as a recognition of how much we owe to the brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces.”

The exhibition is being staged throughout this week.
