A PETITION opposing a major development in Harwich has been presented to council leaders.

Plans to build a marina, hotel and multi-storey car park at the Navyard, in Harwich, have been drawn up by Gaunt Francis alongside Tendring Council’s regeneration company, Intend.

Some residents and traders have launched a campaign to get the blueprint reviewed.

A 3,000-name petition has been presented to North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin, Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield, and Essex County Council cabinet member for finance Sarah Candy.

It opposes the first phase of the masterplan, which involves replacing a car park at Harwich Pier with a new one at Gas House Creek.

Businessman Tony Woods said: “£1.8million has been spent on removing 18 car parking spaces at Harwich Quay to create 40 car parking spaces in Gas House Creek, which is the last piece of commercial land available for employment in Harwich.”
