TWO grandparents will tackle a 630-mile coastline walk for charity.

Ron and Anne Crawford, of Sudbury Road, Halstead, will follow a route around the south west peninsula, from Poole to Minehead, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

They chose the charity because 72-year-old Mr Crawford, a former manager at Somerfield in Halstead, has been in remission from lung cancer for 18 months. Mrs Crawford, 68, who works in Halstead’s Nether Priors as a care assistant for adults with learning disabilities, said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge.

“When I look at the map, it’s terrifying. Everyone says we’re mad.

“But we’re both very excited about it.”

The couple have been training by walking around Halstead, Colne Engaine and Pebmarsh, carrying their backpacks full of camping equipment and clothing.

They have been overwhelmed by the amount of sponsorship they have received from friends and family in just two weeks.

So far, the members of Colchester’s Iceni Marksmen Field Target Shooting Club have raised more than £800. The couple will set off on May 6. To sponsor them, visit www.justgiving.com/roncrawford
