A FIRM of estate agents has leapt to the aid of the Colchester Scouts’ Gang Show.
The singing and entertainment show appeared to be in trouble when Boydens – which has sponsored the show for the past 20 years – said it needed to share the burden due to the recession.
Organisers of the show, called 40, Not Out, were left trying to find other businesses willing to put forward the rest of the cash.
Now Boydens, which has a branch in Crouch Street, Colchester, has lent its full support to the show after hearing it otherwise might not go on.
David Boyden, managing partner of the company, said: “As most people are aware, the past year has been a difficult one for anyone involved in the property market and we have been looking to cut back in certain areas.
“However, in this year of all years for the show organisers, we felt we couldn’t sit back and see the show struggle.”
Gerry Ward, one of the show’s organisers, said: “It’s been a real worry for us, because the economic downturn certainly does seem to have affected people’s ability to offer support.
“Boydens’ support has given everyone a huge boost and we are looking forward to putting on a show which will be a credit to Scouting and to Colchester.”
The show will run at the Mercury Theatre from May 13 to 16.
