AN ENDLESS supply of coffee helped a group of friends through a sponsored pool marathon.

Shaun Tiddeman decided to play pool at Rileys in Colchester for 24 hours to raise money for charity, after his mum Lorraine was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

After being diagnosed in 2005, she recovered only for it to return in 2007.

Shaun, who lives with his mum in Cheveling Road, Old Heath, said she had been prescribed Herceptin and he wanted to raise money for more research into the disease.

With an hour to go, he said free coffee and a couple of energy drinks had helped the six friends stay awake.

He said: “I’m running on adrenaline really, although the pool being played isn’t great.”

The 25-year-old added he wanted to thank staff at Rileys for keeping the club open overnight, and especially Mat Bennett, who had volunteered to work for free.

Shaun estimated around £850 had been raised for Cancer Research UK, and said any further donations should be sent to Rileys at Long Wyre Street, Colchester, CO1 1LH.
