A BUDDING singer is hoping to use her theatrical skills to raise funds so she can volunteer in Africa.

Laura Le Blanc wants to give up her summer to go to Tanzania with Lattitude Global Volunteering to teach youngsters English, drama and dance.

The 19-year-old is studying for a degree in musical theatre at Colchester Institute.

Laura, of Harwich Road, Colchester, said she wanted to do something after learning there are about 605,000 children in Tanzania who will probably never get the chance to go to school due to a lack of educated teachers.

She said: “Of the small percentage of children who do get a primary education, only 20 per cent of those will progress to higher education. This is due to the severe poverty within the country.”

But time is running out for Laura because she must raise the £3,000 she needs to go on the trip, four weeks before the departure date.

She already has a musical theatre showcase, karaoke competition, sponsored skydive and a stint packing bags in local supermarkets.
