Villagers are being urged to support a day of action at a playing field ahead of a £44,000 scheme.
Thorpe Parish Council is spearheading a bid to revamp the Lady Nelson playing field.
The parish council has scooped £19,092 from the lottery, via Tendring Council, towards the scheme.
The first step is to install play equipment and it is hoped a nature trail and picnic area will follow.
The cash was not due to arrive until 2010, but because the Thorpe plan is at a more advanced stage than other schemes in the district, the money will be handed over sooner.
Residents have been invited to the Help the Cause day on January 18, from 10am to 4pm, which is a chance for families to play their part in the project.
