Military police officers who served in Afghanistan this summer have been awarded medals for their tour of duty.

The ceremony at Colchester’s Goojerat Barracks on Friday saw 50 soldiers from 156 Provost Company Royal Military Police receive operational service medals.

A further 16 troops from the company, who also completed six months in Afghanistan this summer, already had medals for a previous tour.

The ceremony and parade were attended by family and friends of the soldiers, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Dennis Rensch and about 25 members of the Royal Military Police Association’s Colchester and East Anglia Branch.

The medals were awarded by Deputy Chief Constable of Essex Police Andy Bliss and Colonel Ian Prosser, the Deputy Provost Marshall.

Mr Bliss said “a massive thank you” to the soldiers and said the police greatly admired them for the job they did.
