MOTORISTS are to be officially banned from using a chunk of the road outside Colchester’s community stadium.

Residents living near the Weston Homes Community Stadium have complained about car drivers using United Way to get to Boxted Road.

On match days, buses, taxis and pedestrians only are allowed access to the stadium via Boxted Road.

Councillor Martin Goss (Lib Dem, Mile End) said that currently, fencing was put across the entrance to United Way, except when games and events were taking place, but motorists were still finding ways to use the road.

As a result Essex County Council has proposed to close a small section of United Way to stop cars from using it to get on to Boxted Road, while continuing to allow access to pedestrians and cyclists.
