HEALTHY snacks have been introduced to vending machines in Colchester Leisure World.

Tasting sessions are being held as part of a Healthy Boost Week to give visitors a chance to try out the new healthy treats.

Salads, smoothies, fresh fruit and yoghurts will all be available to people using the gym, swimming pools and squash courts at the leisure centre.

The vending machine has been provided thanks to funding from NHS North East Essex to give people an alternative to chocolate and crisps.

Chris French, senior public health specialist at NHS North East Essex, said: “Colchester Borough Council and NHS North East Essex are committed to promoting healthy, active lifestyles and healthy eating is a key part of this.

“The new machine will allow customers access to a healthier range of snacks as alternatives to the usual crisps and chocolate that people tend to grab on the run.”

Nicky Cable, assistant bar and catering manager at Leisure World, said: “We already offer these kind of snacks in our Classics bar but that is upstairs and not always open.

“We wanted to make sure these healthy snacks were available all the time and the PCT provided the machine for us.

“It gives people a chance to get fruit or a smoothie if they want one instead.”
