AN anxious mother-of-eight fears the house she rents will fall down due to serious subsidence.

Sandra Travis has been having nightmares about her home collapsing after cracks right through the house became wider in May.

The worst are now so big she can fit her hand inside them.

The 40-year-old, of Princess Drive, High Woods, is also concerned her family would be trapped if there was a fire, as faulty windows have been boarded over by her social landlord The Guinness Trust.

Housewife Ms Travis, whose partner works abroad, said: “I just want to feel safe with the kids. I just want to go to sleep at night without thinking the walls might come down.

“I’m not a person to complain but they could’ve got something done by now.”

She said the “massive” cracks were worse in the bedrooms.

The two main upstairs windows had plastic sheets screwed into the frames as they would not close and a third could not be opened due to the subsidence.

Fire alarms had been fitted and the catches had been taken off the doors to stop them jamming, Ms Travis said.

But what she really wanted was to be temporarily relocated while major repair work was carried out.

Tracey Savoury, housing manager at The Guinness Trust, said it was working to deal with the problem quickly.
