MORE than 30 elderly pensioners have been told they will have to quit their care home amid concerns over their health and wellbeing.
Essex County Council has decided to remove the residents from Greenways Care Home in St John’s, Colchester.
Union officials said yesterday staff were due to be told that the home will close on Sunday and their jobs are going.
Rhonda Warren, whose 88-year-old mother has lived at Greenways for the past two years, said she was “disgusted” by what had happened.
She said she had now found a new home nearby for her mother, who suffers from dementia.
“It is an upheaval for anyone having to move, but for someone with dementia it is extremely unsettling,” said Mrs Warren, from Monkwick.
“I keep telling her she is going to be going to another place, and she says ‘that’s nice dear’, but ten minutes later I am explaining again.
“Half of the people living here have dementia like my mum and they are all going to be in a similar situation.
“They’re so disorientated, it’s horrible.”
