Hundreds of students are set to descend on Colchester for a night of drunken “debauchery”.

At least 900 people from Essex University are expected to attend the pub crawl, set up by event organiser Carnage UK, which has a theme described as “dirty porn star”.

A Facebook page for the event advertises it as “stockings, suspenders and high heels galore – and that (sic) just the boys!”

It adds: “Fake moustaches and thongs at the ready! And don’t forget your sex toys!”

Students buy T-shirts from Carnage UK at a cost of £10, and these act as “tickets” for the event, which is planned for Monday, November 17, and will lead attendees through seven venues.

Carnage UK organises events at 45 different university cities in the UK, but this is the first time it has come to Colchester.

Councillor Theresa Higgins, Colchester Council portfolio holder for culture, tourism and diversity, said she was shocked by the description of the event.

“I am absolutely not supporting it,” she said.

“It is encouraging young people to get drunk in the worst possible way. As for the theme, I am all for fancy dress but this is the lowest of the low.”

ORGANISERS SAY EVENT WILL BE 'WELL-RUN AND FUN EVENING'

A Carnage UK spokesman said: “The Carnage UK event coming to Colchester on November 17, will be a well-organised and fun evening designed to give different groups of students the chance to socialise halfway through the autumn term.

“We actively promote responsible drinking by forbidding our venues from selling discounted alcoholic drinks and carrying out strict ID checks on every participant.

“All venues supply free soft drinks and, where they have the facilities to do so, will be selling discounted bar food. Carnage UK is employing 50 stewards to supervise the event (one steward per 18 students).

“This is in addition to the normal security industry-approved staff already working at the venues.

“Carnage UK is also liaising with local taxi firms to ensure that students will be able to leave the event safely and promptly when it ends.”

A spokesman for Essex University said: “We are not allowing promotion of this event on the Colchester campus.

“While we encourage a good social life as an important part of the student experience, the welfare of our students is our priority.

"Both the university and Students’ Union would discourage our students from attending.”
