A WOMAN had to be cut free from her car after a collision in Colchester.

The crash happened on Westway at about 9am yesterday and involved a silver Mini Cooper and a red Ford Fiesta.

The Mini driver had been travelling towards the town, with the Fiesta travelling in the opposite direction.

The female driver of the Mini was left trapped after the accident.

Firefighters from Colchester fire station’s green watch were called on to cut her free.

Joe Hassell, green watch station officer, said: “An off-duty trauma nurse stopped at the collision and checked over the patient.

She was taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital with a suspected broken arm and complaining of neck pain.

It is the second collision to happen at the site in recent months.

On August 7 a woman had to be cut out of a Nissan Micra car following a collision at almost the same spot.
