History lessons were hands on thanks to a fascinating visit to Colchester Sixth Form College.
Flint knapper Will Lord spiced up lessons by giving a demonstration of the Neolithic skill of shaping flint into tools and weapons.
Richard Millward, lecturer in History, said: “It offered a fascinating insight into the mind of Neolithic man and demonstrated the remarkable degree of skill needed to develop such tools.
“Changes in flint technology revolutionised people’s ways of life, and students were able to see the considerable degrees of complexity in the million-year evolution of flint handaxes.”
Mr Lord, who lives in Colchester, learnt his skills from his father. He dresses in animal skin for the workshops, and also talks about other aspects of life in prehistoric times.
