DEMONSTRATORS are preparing to vent their anger at a circus in Clacton.

The protest takes place on Sunday at 2pm at the Great British Circus site in West Road. District councillors Chris Griffiths and Joy Broderick have joined organiser Jane Williams’ campaign.

Mr Griffiths, who represents Clacton’s St James ward, said: “Using animals in circuses is archaic. I look foward to the day when circuses with animals are banned in this country.”

Animal trainer Martin Lacey said a Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs survey last year proved there is no scientific evidence travelling circuses are unable to meet the welfare needs of non-domestic animals in their care presently in the UK.

He continued: “We need the public’s support so we can continue to care for our animals to the same high standards the Defra survey discovered.”

The cirus is in town until August 10.
