A FIREFIGHTER from the Wee County is set to take part in a 600 mile cycle challenge to support the mental wellbeing of colleagues.
Matthew Gibb, based at Alloa Community Fire Station, is taking part in The Eastern Promise charity cycle event, which will aid charities close to his heart.
The Alloa firefighter is part of a team of current and former members of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who are set to cover around 600miles in seven days.
The challenge will see around 15 riders setting off from Tyndrum Community Fire Station on Monday, May 20, with a planned finish at Edinburgh Castle on Sunday, May 26.
Benefiting from their fundraising efforts will be The Fire Fighters Charity and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide.
Matthew said: “Our cycle ride is not just about covering 600 miles, it’s about supporting two important charities that help people in real times of difficulty.
“I am excited to combine my passion for cycling with raising funds and I know that each pedal forward will help make a difference to the lives of many people.”

The adventure in the east of Scotland will see those taking part cover an impressive average of 100 miles a day, taking in a scenic route around Fife, Falkirk and West Lothian.
From there, they will follow the road through Midlothian, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders before arriving back at Edinburgh Castle.
Staff will join from a variety of places, with Matthew representing Alloa, while colleagues will also come from the Scottish Borders, Glenrothes, Dalkeith, Edinburgh and many other fire stations.
The challenge aims to raise vital funds and awareness for both charities, which offer support to those dealing with the aftermath of a devastating loss and recognise the tireless commitment of firefighters in the community in Scotland.
