ESSEX has been revealed among the top ten counties with the highest proportion of luxury homes.

Research conducted by bespoke aluminium window and door specialists Origin has assessed more than 350,000 current property listings to find the areas of the county with the most high-end homes for sales.

Basing their findings on 26 luxury features, including swimming pools, saunas, gyms and cinema rooms, the analysis showed Essex has the 6th highest proportion of luxury homes on the market of anywhere in Britain.

Of the 13,548 properties currently for sale in the county, 1,261 have more than five bedrooms, 567 feature an at-home gym, 11 have their very own wine cellar and 69 are grand estates with more than 3,000sq ft of internal space.

The analysis used data from Zoopla and Savills.

Hereford takes the top spot in the study, with Cambridgeshire in second place and Dorset in third place.

Victoria Brocklesby, chief operating officer at Origin, said: “It's interesting our research found luxury homes are spread around the UK including Essex, and not just in traditional prime areas.

“This highlights the changing preferences of homebuyers, who are increasingly looking for properties that offer more than just a prestigious postcode.”

The full list comprises Herefordshire, Cambridgeshire, Dorset, Hertfordshire, North Yorkshire, Essex, Cumbria, Gloucestershire, Norfolk and Cornwall.
