MOTORBIKES left abandoned on a Colchester road have been set alight by vandals in a "disgraceful" episode of antisocial behaviour.

Two burnt out motorbikes have been abandoned on Berechurch Road, Colchester.

Reportedly, the vehicles were torched at 9.55pm on Sunday.

This comes after two cars were left in a similar torched state in Bounstead Road, near Friday Woods, only a few miles away.

Dave Harris, ward councillor for Berechurch, said: "It is not what we want in this area.

"There are people who work all year round to afford a motorcycle, including myself, for work or leisure and to have it stolen and burnt out is a disgrace."

"This is unacceptable and we should not be putting up with that sort of antisocial behaviour.

"Anyone with any information should contact the police."

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "We were alerted to the presence of two fire-damaged motorcycles, in the area of Valentinus Crescent, Colchester, shortly after 11.30am on Monday 4 March.

“It is believed the bikes, which have since been recovered, may have been stolen and our enquiries are ongoing.
