INVESTIGATING officers are continuing to look into a fatal crash which resulted in the death of a beloved young man.

Talented footballer Chayse West, 18, was struck by a vehicle on the BL1207 in Elmstead Market in September 2022.

Having sustained injuries, including to the head, Chayse was rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital where he sadly died two days later.

Chayse, who played for Alresford Colne Rangers, had been walking home at about 5am when he was hit by the vehicle near Keelars Lane.

The driver failed to stop at the scene before police officers eventually recovered a car and arrested a 37-year-old man from St Osyth.

Nearly a year on from Chayse's death, Essex Police have now provided an update on the investigation.

A spokesman for the police said: “Our investigation into the fatal collision continues.

"A 37-year-old man was arrested and remains under investigation.”

After Chayse’s tragic death, his family and friends paid loving tributes to the keen sportsman.

His parents said: “Chayse loved his brothers, idolised his mum and dad and would do anything for the rest of his family.”
