A DEVELOPER whose bonfire turned the skies black over Clacton has been fined £10,000.
Furious residents bombarded a council action line with complaints as ash from the giant fire rained down on their gardens, a court heard.
Developer Carl Symes, 55, of Crow Lane, Tendring, was served with an order telling him to stop burning waste at the former Windsor School site in Holland Road.
But Colchester Magistrates' Court heard the giant fire kept burning over the weekend in April, causing "misery" for residents.
He was fined £10,000.
