A man who kept more than 20 cats in squalid conditions, despite a lifetime ban from having animals, could face prison after more than half of them had to be put down.
RSPCA and council officers discovered 24 cats and kittens in the bathroom of Michael Fullbrook's Colchester home.
The stench was so bad that a housing officer couldn't enter the Willingham Road flat, a court heard.
Fullbrook will be sentenced at a later date.
