Fears were raised for two youngsters in a dinghy who were in difficulty in the sea off Holland-on-Sea.
Coastguards, along with two police boats and Clacton beach patrol, were called to help the boys.
Simon Milnes, Thames Coastguard watch manager, said there had been a number of calls from residents who were concerned for the safety of two children.
