A STUNNING Bentley is among a collection of cars expected to fetch hundreds of thousands of pounds when they go under the hammer in Colchester.

The one-off 1951 Bentley Mk VI is estimated to sell for up to £85,000 while two Rolls-Royces could set a buyer back some £50,000 each.

The remarkable cars are being auctioned at Reeman Dansie as part of its Rolls Royce, Bentley and Other Thoroughbred Motorcars sale next Friday.

A 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II limousine which was exhibited at the 1929 Olympia Motor Show is the oldest in the collection.

Having been used by its owner for rallies and tours across Europe, it is now housed at a stately home in Suffolk.

The second oldest is a striking 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Brougham de Ville with unique flamboyant coachwork.

It was built for the American heiress and socialite Evelyn St George whose mansion in London was set in two acres of gardens.

Many of the cars were brought to Reeman Dansie from the estate of John Clough, from Danbury, who died in January.

Mr Clough chaired the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club and had owned most of the cars from new.

Reeman Dansie managing director James Grinter said the sale has attracted worldwide interest from potential bidders.

“It has been very busy with a lot of interest from abroad, particularly in an electric Bugatti replica made for children to race in,” he said.

“It is arguably the most impressive thing in the whole sale. It is a perfect, drivable miniature of a Bugatti sports car but child-sized.

“It is probably quite a fast thing which you’d have to be quite well trained to drive.

“We are delighted to have so many special cars, many which have fascinating histories and have created a list of worldwide interest.”

The sale will also see memorabilia associated with the luxury cars made up for grabs.

Historic Rolls-Royce mascots are among the items listed alongside a car trunk, grills and tool tray.
