Louis Chapman, head saleroom porter, said: “It may have surprised a couple of people, actually.

“It was a good night.

“A couple of people bought 30 to 40 lots each.”

Louis said two of the comic book buyers were indulging their childhood nostalgia.

He added: “It’s the sort of comics they collected as kids.

“They remember going to newsagents to pick up comics.

“It’s rare to find these comic books in that good condition.”

Overall, there were 250 lots in the timed sale with a total of 7,000 comics.

This pair of comic books sold for £1,080.

Meanwhile, most of the other lots made between £700 to £800.

Of the sale, Louis said: “We expected it to do well, but not as well.”

The next timed sale, featuring Part 2 of the collection begins on May 26 and will last for two weeks.
