A post office in Clacton could reopen in weeks - thanks to a groundbreaking council scheme.
The West Clacton branch was closed following an announcement by the Post Office in December that it would shut nine branches in Colchester and Tendring.
However Essex County Council, has announced the branch, in Freeland Road is one of a number it wants to take over.
Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield said the branch may reopen in a few weeks.
West Clacton postmaster Gary Teer welcomed the move.
"I will be delighted if it reopens," he said. "It was not my decision to close it, as everyone is well aware, and we have continued with the shop.
"We were contacted by Essex County Council in February so we haven't taken down the post office counter in the hope that we could one day reopen it.
"I hope the council can get together with the Post Office and come to an agreement."
